Photo Project Conclusion

31st December 2011

The year has come and gone and the one photo a day project has finally drawn to a close. Here is what I wrote approximately one year ago:

My new goal, to take one photo for every day of the year. It's been done a multitude of times by people from all over the world. Some have failed, some succeeded, like the one I mentioned a few days ago.

It's something which i've been thinking about for many months. I'm going to be using either my SLR, point & shoot or my mobile. It's going to be hard, some photos will be terrible. Theres only so many things to take photos of during the week, so I need to get creative.

If I forget to take a photo, it's all over.

In retrospect, it was bloody hard, a lot of the photos didn't turn out great, especially towards the end. I never did use my point & shoot or my mobile, I stuck with my SLR the entire year because it didn't feel right to use another camera, which made it several times more difficult.

Anyone can take a few seconds out of their day and take a photo, whether it's something special is another thing, I did it for some shots but not as many as I would like. It was a hassle having to take my big camera around with me at times. There were times where I wanted to use my phone to take photos, but I committed to my SLR.

During the year I had several nightmares and panic attacks of potentially forgetting to take a photo even though it never happened. One of the most difficult times was dropping my most expensive lens causing it to break.

I often paced my apartment looking for something to take a photo of so I could go to sleep and I had ambitious plans to do complex photos with all sorts of props and lighting but didn't end up having time.

It's not all negative though. I'm really happy I completed the project as I captured some things I never would have.

Since I started this project, I took the time today to review all photos one by one and pick out my favourites. As I looked at each one it gave me a clear memory of what I was doing at that time of year, it's a nice history to have. Here is my top 100 selection:
