Cycling & RunKeeper

When I first moved to Surry Hills some 2 years ago I bought a bike to start getting into a regular exercise pattern, I didn't ride every day but I did the best I can.
Just before the start of 2010 I made a challenge for myself, to go cycling every day for 365 days, and boy does time fly, I ended up exceeding that and then some.
As much as I wanted to, I didn't manage to get every single day of 2010 in, I went overseas for a month so that stopped me for a little while, I couldn't help being sick either for a couple of days.
The thing i'm happy about most of all is that i'm still riding to this day as much as I can. The route is has stayed much the same for the entire time. I'm lucky enough to live close enough to Centennial Park which is the perfect place to ride, not much traffic, bike path around the entire park, pretty much a circuit. Riding there around twice and back home, about 12.5km.
12.5km isn't very much but as it takes about 35 mins out of my day, I feel its good enough to get outside and having decent exercise, it's not a casual ride either, I go as fast as I can. A couple of weeks ago I calculated how far I had been in total over the past year and a half, which ended up being over 5900km, pretty cool.
A few weeks ago I was told of a neat application for my phone called RunKeeper which tracks your exercise route, be it walking, running, cycling and so forth.
The process is basically launching the application at the start, completing the exercise then and telling it you're done. During the duration of the exercise it tracks GPS points every few seconds or so, it's extremely accurate.
From there you can log onto the RunKeeper website and see of map of where you had been, the average speed, duration, calories count and so forth.
Every ride since I got the application i've had it tracking me, so i've been able to tell when days have been slow or fast. It also allows me to challenge myself to see if I can beat my personal records.
When you break a record you get an email as soon as you complete the ride telling you of your new achievements, it's pretty motivating. The RunKeeper website is also extremely impressive, almost Facebook like in the way you can track your friends rides.
One of the coolest RunKeeper features allows you to broadcast your exercise routine live to world. As soon as you begin it announces it on Twitter or Facebook and visitors can track your every move, it even plots you on a map (only to people you allow access). I haven't tried this yet but have tracked other people's rides which is awesome.
So RunKeeper have done a pretty killer job, it's much better than other applications i've tried, they have nailed every area. I'm going to keep using it and most importantly keep riding, it makes you feel like a kid again sometimes.
